Amazing Maasai Marathon

The Course

Race Location

The Amazing Maasai Marathon & Half Marathon (42km & 21km) races are held near the small Maasai town of Kimanjo, Laikipia - about 70km from Nanyuki (GPS Coordinates: 0',31'1.37"N, 37'1'1.08E). It is a remote area in the foothills of Mt Kenya, well off the beaten track. The journey out from Nanyuki takes 2-2.5 hours on untarmacked roads. For participants joining just for the weekend, you can download the driving instructions from here.

About Running in Laikipia North, Kenya:

Expect to need a few days to get acclimatized to the higher altitude. The race will be along unsealed roads and paths in the bush terrain of the lower Rift Valley. There will be areas of long hills, flat bush lands, and rolling countryside. As there is wildlife in the area, the course will be patrolled by experienced, military-trained scouts to track the animals and their movements to ensure you are completely safe.

There will be aid stops every 5-8km with fresh water and food supply. We recommend runners also bring a Camelpak to carry extra water and high-energy foods. The aid stations will be staffed with English-speaking volunteers and medical staff. There will be motorcycles and cars traveling between the aid stations on the course to monitor each runner's progress.
